HNT Gordon makes this Large Curved Sole Spoke Shave out of brass and gidgee, which is a very hard and dense Australian hardwood. The brass sole has a 75mm (3") radius and is 280mm long x 24 mm wide x 22 mm high (11" x 0.95" x 0.87"). It weighs about 500 g (1.1 lbs). The blade dimensions are 45mm wide x 1.6mm thick x 34mm long (1.75" wide x 1/16" thick x 1.35"). Two blade materials are available: Tool Steel (TS) blade hardened to Rc 62-64 or a High Speed Steel (HSS) blade hardened to Rc 62. The HSS is ideal if you plan to reverse the blade to bevel up and use it as a scraper on hard timber.
It has a 55 degrees blade pitch which is ideal for planing are variety of woods with the blade in it's normal bevel down position and by reversing the blade (to bevel up) it will perform as a scraper for use of hard cranky woods.
Used for fine finishing of inside curves. You can also plane a combination of inside and outside curves with one pass once you have mastered this tool.
